You Will Be Surprised ! How Much Burden Has Solar Energy Trade Put on Consumers?
A research report has revealed that due to the increased use of solar energy in the fiscal year 2023-24, consumers relying on the electricity grid are facing an extraordinary burden of 200 billion rupees. The growing trend of solar energy usage has led to a 2 rupees per unit increase in electricity rates for grid-dependent consumers, highlighting financial strain and inequality caused by the unregulated spread of solar power through net metering.
The report warns that if immediate actions are not taken at the government level, the financial burden on grid-dependent consumers will continue to rise. The study estimates that if the demand for grid electricity decreases by 5% due to the use of solar energy in the current fiscal year, the additional burden on grid customers will reach 131 billion rupees. If the grid demand drops by 10%, this burden could double, reaching 261 billion rupees.
To address this unregulated solar energy growth, the report emphasizes the need for immediate reforms and policy changes to ensure a fair distribution of electricity prices and stabilize the electricity grid.
